About Darron...
Darron Cleary-McHarg is a musician/teacher and composer, currently the Composer-in-Residence at Leicester Grammar School.
Studied with: Trevor Tomkins; (Royal Academy of Music) Mal Garrett (Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) and Jim Chapin, one of America’s top percussion educationalists. Darron developed his musicianship skills playing in local orchestra’s and brass bands, performing at the Royal Albert Hall. As a professional session musician; working aboard cruise ships such as the QE2, travelling to various places such as New York ,Caribbean Islands and Africa. Playing with the 'Memphis Belle Big Band' tribute to Glen Miller and shows in Jersey, C.I. working in shows.
Darron is currently teaching at Leicester Grammar School teaching Percussion, Music theory, as well as composition. Writing music for the Leicester Grammar School orchestras, string quartets and choir. Also, appointed Composer-in-Residence Ratby Co-operative Brass Band, pieces include: A Call to Rescue - regularly performed at concerts around Leicestershire. As well as a new composition called Reflections of War - which was performed by Ratby at St James the Greater, Leicester on 11th November 2023 for Remembrance Day. Currently collaborating with Simon Mold, orchestrating his Carol Cantata to be performed later this year 2024 with the 'Yeovil Phoenix Singers'. I am especially indebted to Darron Cleary-McHarg for his time, knowledge, effort and skills while kindly collaborating with me upon the orchestration of Yuletide’. Simon Mold May 2024
Also, a performance of a piece called Rhapsodic Echoes for the trombone which was performed by the The Bardi Symphony Orchestra on 6th November 2023 at Leicester Grammar School.
Previous students include Josh Devine, Young drummer of the year and drummer with 'One Direction'.
