Darron Cleary-McHarg

Composer

Philip Millward, M.A.
'Scenes of winter' was a piece of music written especially for the Albany Singers, as part of their 2025 Christmas Concert. Composed for SATB and Harp, Darron created a piece that was very approachable for an amateur choir, with some very memorable tunes. As he was writing it, Darron was very responsive to the feedback from the choir as he revised and perfected it.
The piece is in 4 movements. The first and fourth movement are for SATB and harp. The second movement is a harp solo, and the third movement is for a cappella SATB. All of the texts pick up on different aspects of winter and Christmas.
'Scenes of Winter;' was hugely enjoyed by performers and audience alike.
DAVID BEAVAN MA. REVIEW 'CAROL OF THE BELLS'
“Darron, I really enjoyed the vigorous performance of your piece last night, very effective. Bass trombone was marvellous. Effective writing and imaginative. Much enjoyed by the audience.”
Mr Andrew Ashwin, FRSM PGDip (RCM) BMus (Hons) (Singing)
"Darron has composed many pieces for the Senior Choir at Leicester Grammar School, and each composition has worked brilliantly in concerts, services and in the rehearsal process. His pieces are stylish and unique, and they always deliver the mood he is trying to create. There are many highlights, one in particular being "Colours". Darron is a fantastic musician and a really great colleague to work with, as he always strives to improve, and works collaboratively with those around him".
